The Relationship between Self-esteem and Burnout among Secondary School Teachers: Kenitra Directorate as a Case Study

The study aims to determine the nature of the relationship between the concepts of self-esteem and burnout among teachers of preparatory secondary education; the phenomena of self-esteem and burnout are conceptualized through the theoretical human heritage, and operationalized by relying on the descriptive, analytical and correlational approach. The study targets 200 male and female teachers belonging to 6 preparatory secondary schools from the Kenitra Directorate. This population is selected by using a simple random method. The information obtained was collected and processed statistically using the statistical package program SPSS and EXCEL. The results of the study showed that: 1)- there is a statistically significant inverse correlation between self-esteem and burnout; 2)- there is no correlation between self-esteem and demographic variables: Age, gender, teaching subject, family status and professional seniority; 3)- Burnout levels are affected by demographic variables: Age, gender, teaching subject, family status and seniority; 4) 49.17% of professors have high self-esteem and 48.33% have medium self-esteem, and 5) 5% of the respondents suffer from high burnout and 85.83% suffer from moderate burnout.
